Commitment to the Zwerg Nase Foundation
The scope of entrepreneurial activities goes beyond regular business operations and includes the acceptance of corporate social responsibility. An important part of Aareal Bank's social and charitable commitment at the head office in Wiesbaden is the support of the Zwerg Nase Foundation.
The charitable organisation Zwerg Nase e.V. has been founded in 1996 by Prof Michael Albani, the former director of the Clinic for Children and Adolescents of the Dr.-Horst-Schmidt-Kliniken (HSK-Kliniken) in Wiesbaden. The goal of the initiative is to provide support for parents with handicapped children in a simple and non-bureaucratic way. Having a disabled child all of a sudden means that life for the parents changes abruptly. The every-day circle of care, anxiety and challenges is very strenuous for the parents affected and many families break up as a result of this exceptional situation.
Under the umbrella of the ZWERG NASE house in Wiesbaden, three closely connected facilities provide services specifically tailored to the needs of disabled children and their families. Here, parents find relief and support in order to have time for themselves and their other children. In the short-time care facilitiy, children are taken care of on a day-to-day basis; the residential home "Rotkehlchen" (German for "robin") accommodates twelve children who need to be ventilated, and the outpatient Social Pediatric Centre treats children and adolescents.
At the beginning of 2010, the association was put on a solid financial footing with the establishment of a foundation. A starting capital of € 250,000 was provided by the initial benefactors, which included both committed private individuals and Wiesbaden-based companies. The project is also sponsored by Aareal Bank. Dr Wolf Schumacher, Chairman of the Management Board of Aareal Bank, has been elected Chairman of the foundation board of Zwerg Nase foundation in January 2010.
