Deposit business
Aareal Bank's deposit business includes deposits from the following client groups:
- Housing industry deposits
- Deposits from private clients
- Deposits from institutional investors
Housing industry deposits comprise
- Sight deposits
- Overnight/term deposits
- Deposits from maintenance reserves and
- Deposits from tenancy bonds
Deposits from private clients comprise term deposits generated from platforms such as Raisin and held on a fiduciary basis, usually with medium to long-term maturity.
Deposits from institutional investors generally include short- and medium-term deposits by insurers, investment companies, government institutions, social security funds, professional pension funds and other financial intermediaries, as well as foundations. The main advantages of investing in the form of overnight/term deposits are a high level of security, short-term availability and the flexibility of the products.
General notes on deposit protection:
The Bank is a member of both the statutory deposit guarantee scheme of German banks (Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken GmbH – EdB) and the Deposit Protection Fund (voluntary deposit protection) operated by the Association of German Banks (Bundesverband deutscher Banken e.V.).
According to the current by-laws (in German) of the Deposit Protection Fund, each (protected) creditor will be compensated up to a protection ceiling of 8.75% of the Bank's own funds, but in each case capped at a maximum compensation amount of € 3 million (natural persons and entities treated as such) or € 30 million (non-financial corporations and entities treated as such). From 1 January 2030, the maximum compensation amounts will be € 1 million (natural persons and entities treated as such) or € 10 million (non-financial corporations and entities treated as such).
The Bank will inform the client of the relevant protection ceiling upon request; the protection ceiling is also available on the Internet at https://einlagensicherungsfonds.de (in German).
