The combined sustainability statement, as the separate combined Non-financial Report in the previous years, describes the goals and policies of Aareal Bank AG and Aareal Bank Group for the five matters required by law (environmental matters, employee-related matters, social matters, respect for human rights and anti-corruption and bribery matters).
The combined sustainability statement was prepared based on the requirements of the German Commercial Code (Handelsgesetzbuch, “HGB”). The ESRSs (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) were applied as framework. The change to this framework in comparison to financial year 2023 is due to the expected transposition into national law of the CSRD and the requirement to apply the ESRSs. The statement's structure is thus in accordance with the requirements of the ESRSs. The matters to be reported were identified based on the double materiality assessment according to the ESRSs.
In addition to general information about the ESRS 2 Standard, the statement contains information regarding the topical standards E1 Climate change, S1 Own workforce and G1 Business conduct, and to the entity-specific topic of information security, which have been identified as being material.
Information regarding the topic anti-corruption and bribery matter was included on the basis of the HGB requirement, although the matter was assessed as not material by the double materiality assessment. As required by the ESRSs, chapter E1 includes the disclosure obligations pursuant to the Taxonomy Regulation. The sustainability statement was fully subjected to a limited assurance review by the auditor.
