Aareal Bank publishes first detailed report on financed carbon emissions in its Commercial Real Estate Financing portfolio

Today, Aareal Bank published its first report on financed carbon emissions in its Commercial Real Estate Financing Portfolio in accordance with the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) standard.

In this way, Aareal Bank will achieve its objective of establishing extensive transparency regarding the financed carbon emissions of its lending business by the end of 2024 for the first time.

By signing the ‘PCAF Commitment Letter’ and joining the PCAF initiative in 2021, Aareal Bank has already joined a group of more than 550 institutions worldwide that are collaborating to improve carbon transparency in the financial sector. Through this voluntary commitment, Aareal Bank has declared that it will work continuously to improve its database and, on this basis, publish an initial report on financed carbon emissions within a three-year period.

In addition to providing an overall view of carbon performance in our loan portfolio, the report published today also provides in-depth insights into the carbon footprint and carbon intensity of individual building types and regions within Aareal Bank’s loan portfolio. Moreover, the consistent application of the PCAF data quality scores defined in the PCAF Standard makes it possible to better assess the underlying data quality and make it more comparable with other market participants.

In future, the report will be published once a year and will be available to all interested stakeholders on Aareal Bank’s corporate website.

The new PCAF report on financed carbon emissions can be found here (initially in German language).

The English version of the report will also be published on our website shortly.
